To ensure all pupils are involved in and feel part of Belmont Academy we listen to their opinions and are keen to hear the “Pupil Voice”. Widespread consultation on pupils’ learning and the school environment, ethos and culture take place on a regular basis. This happens through classroom discussion, Department Surveys, School Surveys and the contributions of the Pupil Councils. The Pupil Councils enable young people to become responsible citizens by making a positive contribution to genuine decision making in the school.
The Learning Council:
Year Councils and the Senior Student Council report to the Pupil Council. The Pupil Council then discuss and submit matters of importance to the Senior Leadership Team who reply with responses and actions as appropriate. School Captains and Vice Captains chair and report on the meetings.
Feedback is conveyed to pupils is via House and Year Assemblies and reporting to classes by class reps in PSE lessons. Our Pupil Voice agenda is extremely important to us. We call this process “You Said – We Did”.
The Learning Council:
- Gives pupils the chance to discuss their ideas for school improvements
- Represents the views and interests of each class in the school
- Meets regularly to talk about important school issues and projects
- Puts forward the class views at Council meetings
- Encourages pupils to become more responsible citizens and confident individuals
- Allows opportunity to improve learning and teaching to ensure all pupils can be successful learners
