Aim: To recognise and celebrate the significant successes and wider achievement of pupils in sport or cultural activities beyond the curriculum.
Pupils who have been awarded their colours will now all have their achievements recognised through full colours. This consists of red and yellow braiding on the current school blazer. In addition the pupil will also receive a badge which indicates the activity the colours were awarded for. In cases where pupils are awarded their colours for more than one activity then they will receive another badge for the activity and have an additional yellow band on the cuffs of the blazer.
The statements below outline the current criteria for the award of school colours.
Pupils who represent their country may be awarded school colours at any stage. In the case of an award for continued loyalty and commitment within the school, pupils should have displayed this commitment for 4 years so would therefore be eligible to achieve this at the start of S5.
Pupils are able to nominate themselves for colours as a result of their wider achievement by completing a ‘colours’ application form and submitting it to Mr Flanagan in the PE Department. Members of staff are welcome to forward nominations whenever they consider it appropriate. Nominations will then be considered by the colours committee on two agreed dates within the school year in June and December. Pupils will be required to provide evidence of their achievements to show that they have met the agreed criteria. This evidence may be in the format of a trophy, a letter from the National Association or a newspaper article confirming the achievement.
